Jargon - How To Discuss

Jargon

Technical terms used in a particular industry or sector that are unlikely to be known to the general public. Accessible content should avoid the use of technical jargon.

Jargon is another way of describing words and language that is only used in a specific industry. Those who are not in the industry are less likely to understand the meaning of the words.

It is a language, a set of terms, abbreviations, created words and more that is special and specific to a profession, niche, profession or group. Words that members of the group know and understand (or become familiar with), but are confusing to the general public or to those who are not members of the group. These are often technical terms, industry words or words that have a different meaning for one group than for another. Libraries and libraries have LOTS of technical terms. Let's be very careful about what we say or how we describe our products or services using words that do not have the same meaning, weight, accessibility or understanding among our customers and users.
